I had a volunteer shift at the hospital today, so to be sure that I had plenty to do I took a thick novel, my sock knitting, and a crochet hook and some leftover elann esprit print from a past pair of socks. The latter was inspired by the fact that I was about to toss an apple into my bag to take with me, when I remembered that I’d seen lots of knitted apple cosies online. A good idea for keeping your apple clean and maybe less bruised.
So once I’d settled in at the desk, I started work. A few people asked me what I was making, and they did a double-take when I told them it was an apple cosy! It was easy – I crocheted it with a 4.5mm hook, using a similar method to all those little bags I had made in the round some time ago. I winged it as far as the increases and decreases were concerned. Near the top, I started to crochet back and forth, then when I felt that it fitted my apple just right, I chained a loop for a button.
With all the interruptions, it took me about 2.5 hours. Then I picked up my novel – Lake in the Clouds by Sara Donati. I’ve read the first two books in the series now – Into the Wilderness and Dawn on a Distant Shore – and I have the fourth waiting on my coffee table – Fire Along the Sky. Highly recommended!
That is so cute!
