a new bag

the old bag

This is a bag I was given two years ago (almost to the day) by a friend.  It has seen a lot of use as you can tell.  This has been my everyday bag for most of those two years, except for a short period with a knitted bag.  The straps are fraying, there’s a hole in the fabric near the top, and another just above the crocheted flower where the pockets put strain on the main fabric.

I emptied it out and had a good look at it.  Measured it, checked out how it was made, and bought some new fabric to make a similar one.

This bag has a very different look.  Same construction, trendy new fabrics.  Whereas the old bag was floral “homespun” type fabrics, this one is way up to date.

The one difference is that instead of large grommets around the top I went cheap and used smaller eyelets, and instead of sewing a strap I used a pre-made twisted cord.  I’m hoping I won’t regret that!

So now I’ve transferred my things into the new bag and the old one is being retired.
