This is the first pair of fingerless mitts that I’ve made for a man, so to (hopefully) get the sizing right I’m using my Ann Budd book (pic below). I bought two yarns – one is James C Brett Marble in charcoal (a variegated grey/white) and the other is Marks & Kattens Carolina in grey, both bought here.
I stranded them together on 5.5mm (US 9) needles and achieved a gauge of 4 stitches to the inch. I was originally going to make fingerless gloves, but I noticed that the glove pattern in the book only went down to 5 sts/inch and I considered that the bulk of the yarn might be too much between the fingers.
So I’m following the basic mitten pattern in the book, however I shortened the straight stockinette part after completing the thumb gusset and added ribbing. Ditto the thumb. I think these will be soft and warm to wear and hope the intended recipient likes them.
A little bonus photo of one of my favourite ways to eat fruit – fresh peaches, bananas and frozen blueberries. Our peaches are almost gone – I ate a lot, gave some away, froze 12 jars of them in their own juice, and have a few left, for which I am competing with the fruit flies!
