hot off the needles

Ta-Da! A Baby Surprise Jacket, buttons ‘n all. I found some cute teal buttons with a line drawing of a school bus on them. Is that ironic for a fellow homeschooling mum? Oh well, they go well with the yarn.

It’s hard to tell what the individual colours are like in this photo, but I think I’ve come up with a unisex jacket that will work for either a boy or girl. I can never remember which side the buttons are “supposed” to go, so I put them on the right as that’s what I would find easier if I was buttoning up a baby’s jacket.

Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Baby Surprise Jacket knitted in Red Heart Soft, Jeweltone, 2 skeins, US#7 (4.5mm) needles, finished width across chest at armholes 9.25 inches, length 12.5 inches, sleeve width 4.5 inches. Yes, I know Elizabeth would cringe at my use of acrylic – she was such a wool advocate.
