Swap parcel is ready to go

FullSizeRender [178929]
I’m happy to announce that my swap parcel is sealed up and just needs to be mailed. The water bottle holder looked so nice this morning. It dried overnight and looked so neat and even, having slept on its water bottle overnight.

Everything fitted perfectly in the 5.5″ cube box I bought from the post office. I added in a note (on a different card, as the postcard I originally bought was too big).

We are  having a cloudy Sunday, which is nice after the hot week we’ve had. Tai Chi Man and  I were out in the garden earlier, picking apricots, green beans, potatoes and mint. And now it’s showering, so we timed it well. The garden  needs the rain, especially as the underground sprinklers haven’t been running as often as we thought.

We have a lot of potatoes growing in the garden (and the variety is called Nicola, and was ordered from Winnipeg if I recall correctly) but the one we dug today was a rogue one from a bag of organic supermarket potatoes that had sprouted so crazily in the bag that we planted it apart from the rest to see how it would do. Well, that one potato turned into lots of potatoes, enough for a meal for four! I am impressed. (My husband often says I’m easily impressed!)

I shall wait to see if the weather changes later – we had an idea to get the kayaks on the water today, they have been hosed down and made ready, but the brackets still need to be fitted to my roof rack. It would be a pleasant way to spend a Sunday evening.

I hope your weekend is a happy one!

FO: Crochet water bottle holder

Greetings! I just took a look at my last blog post and realised I hadn’t told you about this project yet. After a lot of browsing to find one more item to make for my surprise swap partner, I decided on a water bottle holder, but not the one that I designed a couple of years ago. No, I’m using someone else’s pattern! Favecrafts, here. Also on Ravelry, here.

This one is made out of Stylecraft Cotton Classique DK, from the kit that I won in a draw. It only used small amounts of six of the colours, and more of the green that I used for the handle and centre openwork part.

Right now, it’s blocking. I washed it and put it back on this water bottle and hung it to dry, figuring that would keep it in the right shape. The pattern directions are for a very small holder. The width is okay but I added 6 rounds to the length. Those stripes above the green section are two rounds each to match what I did at the bottom. I also made the strap about 20 rows longer per side.

I really hope my swap partner likes this item – I wanted to add some colour to the parcel, seeing as the group that’s organising it is called Colourful KALs and CALs. I now have everything for the parcel and just have to write a note, bundle it all up and mail it.

In other news, the cold is gradually receding. Still a little bit of nose-blowing and coughing, but not enough to stop me going out and doing what I need to do. We had a lovely evening last night at a local beach, having a picnic with some friends. Good food, good company, great weather and swimming. It’s always lovely to watch the sun go down and leave late.

Ah well, that’s it for another post. Tomorrow when the dishcloth and water bottle holder are dry, I’ll get another photo of the parcel contents and pack ’em up. See you then!

Crochet and life update

It’s a day off today which is a good thing because I’m still blowing my nose every 2 minutes!

Ds3 caught a cold at summer camp. Tai Chi Man caught it on the long drive back from summer camp. Then I caught it. After a blissful four day block of days off last week, in which I spent time in the sun every day including (finally) an afternoon at the beach, I had to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend shifts were a challenge as I had  a horrendous sore throat and would rather not have had to talk at all.

My nose has been running like crazy for the last couple of days but at least this morning the whole headache/neuralgia thing seems to have lessened. I did resort to some acetaminophen (paracetamol) to get through the worst of it, plus I’ve been dosing with the usual natural remedies. We had a monster pack of tissues from Costco last week that’s already gone and I am now using toilet paper!

Enough whining, now to the more cheerful stuff.

Apricot jam…

The first tree produced well this year. I gave some fruit away at work, to two neighbours, froze some, and made jam with more. I just have a few left in the fridge which I should probably eat for breakfast because they are on their way out. We do have a second tree that has teeny tiny apricots that always ripen later, and it’s probably time I starting picking those.

Neat ripple blanket…

Look at those lovely ends. Next time I find a good movie on Netflix, I think I’ll catch up with those. Talking of Netflix, I watched Season 4 of Orange is the New Black. Awesome stuff!

Swap parcel…

Not quite ready to send yet – I have yarn, jewellery fixings, penguin buttons, a seashore themed dishcloth, all things which I think my swap partner will like. I have one of those 5.5″ mailing boxes from Canada Post and there’s still a bit of room left, so it would be nice to add in a bit more.

I think that’s all from me right now – I need more tea and lemon water to keep me going (sneeze, cough, sniff) and hopefully the next time you hear from me I will be back to wellness again.
